The Rabbit R1 will not be able to make calls (at least for now)

The company recently backtracked on its first words and confirmed the absence of calls and SMS

We have to go back to the end of January, specifically to the 22nd to read the following comment in the FAQ section within the Rabbit R1 Discord:

The user @danyrub initially asked if the phone calls and SMS text messages were confirmed by the company, to which the communications manager responded with a brief and forceful "Yeah."

A couple of days later, in response to the same question that, as we will see, has been asked countless times, the affirmative answer would be repeated:

They were quite forceful on this new occasion. The Rabbit R1 would be compatible with calls - although SMS was no longer mentioned -

A few days later, continuing with the same topic, the user @West-Lee He asked again, and this time the answer came from another user, who, although he confirmed the integration with calls, It didn't do it like that with SMS.

This is where a new user named @54bombay prefers to be cautious. specifically it says:

It's not a phone or it's going to replace a phone, so whether or not it can make calls and send SMS is not what it's intended for, even if you have a SIM, but you might not want to get a data SIM if You are going to use it outside the home without it being connected to your phone's WiFi or another WiFi.

It was quite revealing even though I wasn't part of the Rabbit team. In a way he is right, since the device is not intended as a replacement for the smartphone, but apparently both in terms of hardware and software it should be prepared.

Rabbit confirms that we will not be able to call in the first phase

It would take almost 3 weeks for the official staff of the brand to read the negative confirmation of the original messages that stated Rabbit R1 integration with calling and SMS system through the SIM card.

For the initial version, you will not be able to call like a phone or be able to talk. But hardware-wise, the R1 has the ability to do what a phone can do, so we may support phone calls and text messages in the future.
Rabbit

After this comment, which barely 15 days have passed, The community went up in arms, reminding Rabbit that from the beginning it was said that, although it was not a real substitute for the telephone, it would incorporate the option of calling.

Will you then be able to make calls?

Well, apparently not from the beginning, but this can be qualified, especially for those of us who have placed the order after the batch 3 and for Europe, since it will depend on the place it is sent to and the time.

In my specific case and that of many European users, their Rabbit R1 will not arrive until the end of July, 4 months after the first units have been received in much of the United States and Canada.

What does this mean? Well, it is possible that although it is not incorporated in the beginning, by the time it reaches our hands Rabbit Inc. It has already been incorporated via update, which is what seems to happen in the future.

You'll have to be patient and wait for it to reach the first users...
