Quarterly update. The first months of the Rabbit r1

Today the company reviews the journey of the Rabbit r1, from its presentation to the present and the news that is to come

Simon warned from the Discord announcement channel that it had just been published on the Rabbit website a new article in which they reviewed the entire first quarter of the Rabbit r1, from its presentation to what they have planned for the future.

In it they talk about how the Rabbit quickly—and very surprisingly—became the go-to device for Artificial intelligence best-selling to date, with more than 100,000 units placed in just a few weeks since its presentation.

I leave you the summary and my interpretation of what they say in the article.

First updates to the Rabbit r1

If there is something good about this company, it is the contact with the community through Twitter or Discord, and they not only read user comments but also before leaving they have taken the trouble to make some improvements.

And this is feedback It is always positive, since it leads us to be able to develop R1 in the best possible way. That is why when the first units arrived and They began to receive reports from buyers, they worked harder than ever.

The first updates did not wait long, and in just 7 days from the release of the device we had the first update of the device by correcting a problem that drained the battery in just a few hours and that is already solved.

Just 3 days later a second update improving the LLM and correcting another series of bugs. Two updates in 10 days after the release of the device seems to me to be a fairly important sign of trust to take into account.

The Pickup Party in New York

On April 23, the Pickup Party in which some lucky ones were able attend the pick-up of your Rabbit r1 in the first place with an original atmosphere and full of «retrofuturism» in which Jesse Lyu played master of ceremonies and DJ.

In addition, the CEO showed first-hand some of the first functions of the r1 in a kind of Keynote but this time with live demos and nothing recorded in advance, in which he spoke about the present and future of the Rabbit r1.

Hiring, new partners and new investors

After the presentation in January at the CES in Las Vegas 2024, and in view of the fact that they began to sell units like they could never have imagined, hiring began, since they could not cope with the workload they had and still have. You can see the offers here.

In addition, they increasingly have more and more collaborators and investors, among whom are Perplexity, OpenAI, Anthropic and ElevenLabs, in addition to a new round of financing with SOUND VENTURES.

At the collection basket they also announced the final addition to the Rabbit team of Jesper Kouthoofd., founder and CEO of Teenage Engineering who will remain CEO of TE but will work closely with Jesse on new Rabbit products.

LAM 1.5 – Bridging digital interfaces with the physical world

Significant progress has been made with the Large Action Model (LAM) in digital interfaces in recent months. Now, they are looking ahead to the next stage of possibilities with LAM 1.5, which will bridge the gap between the digital and physical world.

In the presentation they explained how LAM 1.5 aims understand physical objects, associate them with their digital counterparts and operate those products for us. For example, pointing to the smart home thermostat and asking the device to change the temperature.

This new LAM 1.5 aims to do just that: identify the correct make and model of the device and operate it on our behalf. I'm looking forward to seeing how they end up implementing it in the future.

Generative User Interface

Another of Rabbit's plans is to —attention— create a user interface that is created and improved as you use the device, so that it learns from us, from the use we give it and that is, verbatim, «more personalized, dynamic and proactive«.

I really have no idea how it's going to work, since at the moment they have not shown anything beyond the idea and the future project, but what is certain is that it will be incredible to see how it is developed by the company.

Rabbit Hole – From mobile operating system to desktop

Finally, they say that they are working on an improved version of RabbitOS that will convert a single current website, RabbitHole, in a completely native Artificial Intelligence desktop operating system.

The idea is that the Rabbit becomes in all its forms the ideal assistant through these modifications to the operating system they are building, turning it into a device that understands how we like to work and helps us do so.

In short, they want to automate the ecosystem so much that, as they say, “create a computer so simple that you don't have to learn how to use it«, it is simply used and that's it. I hope to follow the path with them to see how it evolves.
