The day of the first unboxing of the Rabbit r1 has been a long time coming, but as promised, April 23 was the Rabbit R1 Pickup Party and in it came a sample of the current capabilities of the R1 as well as some surprises.

Neither more nor less than with an hour and a half of keynote we were delighted by Jesse Lyu, the CEO of the company responsible for the Rabbit r1, and it was precisely at that moment that all the meat would be put on the grill, and it was no wonder.

Since the presentation of the device in January, the company has faced different problems such as accusation of false demos, doubts about delivery and the disastrous launch of its competitor, the Humane AI Pin.

That is why this was the key moment for the public and the creators. Everything had to be perfect and I have to say after going to bed at 4 in the morning watching the event that, except for a couple of unimportant details, it was.

The Unboxing of the Rabbit R1 to order

Several dozen people gathered at the TWA hotel in New York on April 23, 2024, waiting for Jesse Lyu to come to the fore and begin to show everything he had promised over the months, and so it was .

They began the session with a review of the last 3 months, starting with the presentation at the CES in Las Vegas in January and ending with yesterday's keynote and with the CEO of Rabbit Inc coming out on stage to present the news.

The travel case

Like a good unboxing of the Rabbit r1, it couldn't do anything other than show the box the device comes in and that he commented on several occasions through the Discord channel: A travel case/case shaped like a cassette tape case.

In my opinion it is beautiful, but above all useful to have it at home and transport it. The problem I see is that I don't know how useful it will be when using it on a day-to-day basis. It acts as support, protection and is also very pretty.

Search

As we already knew, one of the strong points of the Rabbit r1 was precisely its ability to search for everything we ask of it, and that is that through its agreements with, among others, Perplexity, they have achieved an exceptional experience.

Even using the device's 4G technology and leaving the Wi-Fi off during the presentation, searches took just one or two seconds to be answered, which made it exceed all expectations in terms of speed.

In the unboxing he does a couple of searches and what is most surprising is not only the accuracy of the answers but also that they are almost instantaneous...

Vision mode

For me this demo shows the most amazing thing about the entire presentation, and that is that in addition to what we had seen in other previous videos In this case it teaches something that we did not have in the community at the moment.

At one point, Jesse shows a sheet of what looks like a handmade chart, with colors, names, and numbers drawn on it like a rough draft, to which asks Rabbit r1 to create a table and sort the elements it sees on the sheet.

Well, in just a few seconds you receive an email from rabbit through Gmail in which a Google Sheets document appears and that table appears ordered just as you request. For some reason he doesn't get to talk much about the subject, but I tell you, I find it fascinating.

Terminal

It jokes with one of the topics that has been most requested through the community, and it was precisely a terminal mode with a keyboard that we can use in addition to having the option of speaking to it out loud, for times when we cannot make noise.

At the moment in which We turn the Rabbit r1 90 degrees to the right, a keyboard is displayed and Terminal mode opens to be able to write in it. This has several peculiarities that are most interesting. These are:

• The keyboard opens automatically when you rotate the device.
• When the keyboard comes out, the device goes silent. Understand that if you can't speak you don't want to be heard either.
• With the wheel you can move between characters in case you have to correct something you wrote.
• It has an Enter button, but you can send the prompts through the PTT button.
• With terminal mode Fits perfectly in the travel case and leaves the charging connector free.

I have really found a keyboard that I did not expect, but I think it's wonderful to be able to use it in environments where you don't want to make noise. or that you prefer that no one finds out that you are using it.

Notes and voice recordings

One of the specifications that seem simpler but at the same time are more useful. We came to talk about the PLAUD NOTE and how he was able to record, transcribe, summarize and modify what we recorded. Well, the Rabbit r1 does it even better.

Without subscriptions and for a similar price you can record and leave notes of – for now – up to an hour long. Through the Rabbit Hole We can download the audio and modify the summaries that Rabbit himself has saved for us.

As I have already mentioned, it seems extremely useful for creating a "second brain", record samples for music or have meetings and make sure we don't forget anything and write down the most important points of the conversation.

As we have already seen on many occasions, in this unboxing of the Rabbit r1 we are once again shown the speed and agility with which it is handled through Spotify. What we see is how the LAM interacts with our account.

Presumably in the future we will be able to add other audio streaming platforms which are currently not available. We will be patient, since this is version 1.0 and there is still a long way to go.

Order food and transportation

We also saw it at the CES presentation, but yesterday he ordered food delivery again through the doordash app, which I'm afraid is not in Spain, but as I say, the concept, although it is not available at the moment, is very interesting.

In short, our Rabbit will be able to order food through the website in question and will give us the options to choose from the menu of the restaurant we want. I leave you a video in which it looks extremely good.

The future of the Rabbit r1

This is the most exciting part of the project, and it is that in the company's roadmap, they have a number of projects that, if they go ahead, It is going to be a real blow on the table for the world of devices controlled by artificial intelligence.

They are working on a line of accessories that allows the Rabbit r1 to be carried comfortably in the form of a pocket on the t-shirt or shoulder bag. The truth is that I quite like the concept. We'll see how it develops.

The LAM and its development

The presentation continues with the work they are doing with the Large Action Model, and the example of how through the Rabbit Hole website they can train Rabbits or Agents to buy through the website.

It is without a doubt the strongest point that the r1 has and that I hope will be developed as soon as possible, since it gives me the feeling that the possibilities are infinite, and although so far they have only shown brushstrokes, I think they have a long way to go.
